No Gi Jiu Jitsu

No Gi Jiu Jitsu Coaches - Hunter Boone & Trevor Scarberry. Under the guidance of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Altus Head Coach, Jason Greer, our program is focused on the methods and practices of our sister gym. 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is a non-traditional style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu developed by Master Eddie Bravo and has become the fastest growing style of Jiu Jitsu today. Although 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu has its origins and fundamentals in traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, that's where the similarities end. In traditional Jiu Jitsu, you rely heavily on using the Japanese Kimono or Gi to submit your opponent. While in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu, we removed the Gi from the equation and focus more on clinching and over hooking your opponent, making it a more effective against punches and in a street fight. In fact, Eddie Bravo specifically created 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu to help MMA fighters and to evolve the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into an offensive and defensive form of self defense

Kickboxing

Kickboxing Coaches - Garrick Archer & Hunter Boone. Kickboxing is one of the most popular combat sports around the world. Kickboxing derives its name from classic boxing as it incorporates punching and other striking techniques. What Is Kickboxing? As its name suggests, kickboxing is a striking style that incorporates punches and kicks. In reality, it is an umbrella term for a wide range of combat and martial arts styles. The essence of kickboxing is that it is a stand-up fighting style. This is to say that it focuses on striking and there is no ground fighting involved. The range of techniques depends on the individual type of kickboxing style. Other than standard punching techniques similar to western boxing, kickboxing techniques typically include kicks, knee and elbow strikes.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

MMA Coach - Hunter Boone. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills from a mixture of other combat sports to be used in competition. The rules allow usage of both striking and grappling techniques while standing and on the ground. Competitions allow athletes of different backgrounds to compete.

Youth Programs

Youth Coaches - Hunter & Jessica Boone. Don’t forget, Youth Programs available (3-11yr old)! Martial arts, like Jiu Jitsu, are thousands of years old. They originated in Asia as forms of self-defense. Now, while they are still extremely effective methods of self-defense, they serve several other purposes. Practicing martial arts can be especially beneficial to kids, particularly those who have academic or behavioral challenges. An important principle of martial arts is self-discipline. Through learning how to focus their mental and physical energies, students who take martial arts develop this self-discipline, and with it, their self-control improves, too. Kids love taking martial arts because it gives them a sense of physical power, while also teaching them important regulation skills.
